Postural Analysis

Anterior, posterior and lateral posture assessment from photos.

Postural Analysis uses AI to locate body landmarks on standing photos and quantifies the alignment of the head, shoulders, trunk, pelvis and lower limbs from the front, back and side. It turns a visual posture check into something measurable and comparable.

What Is It Used For?

  • Objectively documenting posture at the initial assessment
  • Tracking postural change throughout an exercise or treatment programme
  • Making left-right asymmetries and forward-backward deviations visible
  • Explaining posture visually to the client and supporting motivation

Measured Parameters

  • Head tilt and forward head position
  • Shoulder height difference and rounded shoulders
  • Lateral and forward-backward trunk deviation from the midline
  • Pelvic height difference and pelvic tilt
  • Knee and ankle alignment (valgus/varus tendency, distance to the plumb line)

Setup and Camera Placement

  • The client stands barefoot in a relaxed stance in front of a plain wall or background.
  • Place the camera about 2.5–3 metres away, at waist-hip height and perpendicular to the floor.
  • The whole body must be in frame from head to toe, with a small margin above and below.
  • Take a separate photo for each view: anterior, posterior and lateral.

Tips for Accurate Measurement

  • Prefer fitted clothing that shows body contours and contrasts with the background.
  • Long hair should be tied up so the ears, shoulders and neck are visible.
  • Do not tilt the camera; a vertical, steady phone reduces angle errors.
  • Ask the client not to "correct" their posture and to stand as they usually do.
  • Take follow-up photos at the same distance, height and similar lighting.

How Is the Test Done?

  1. Select the client and open the Postural Analysis tool.
  2. Choose the view (front, back or side) and take a photo or upload one from the gallery.
  3. Check the landmarks placed by the system and adjust them manually if needed.
  4. Run the analysis and review the results.
  5. Save the result to the client profile and repeat the same conditions at follow-up.

What Will I See on the Results Screen?

  • Landmarks and alignment lines drawn on the photo
  • Angle and deviation values for each region
  • Left-right comparisons and a per-view summary
  • A record stored in the client profile, comparable with earlier measurements

Interpreting the Results

  • Values reflect posture at the moment of capture; change across repeated measurements under the same conditions is more meaningful than a single reading.
  • Larger differences in shoulder or pelvic height may point to an asymmetry; this should be considered together with the clinical examination.
  • A head positioned in front of the plumb line may indicate a forward head posture tendency.
  • Small differences of a few degrees can be explained by natural postural variability and recording conditions.

Clinical Use Example

For a desk worker with neck and shoulder complaints, forward head position and shoulder alignment are recorded at the first session. After a 6-week posture and strengthening programme, photos are retaken under the same conditions and the change is compared on screen together with the client.
